Jim Jarmusch has come up with something strange and amazing in « Ghost Dog »– an existential fable. It is also surprisingly funny. Sudden laughter is as likely to occur as sudden death (…) It is African American gangsta vs. mafiosi gangsters. Jarmusch’s directing technique shows great economy of expression, and yet he spins this tale out for almost two hours without its going slack. The film is composed of extraordinarily odd elements presented with nonchalance. The atmosphere of « Ghost Dog » is enhanced by the music of The Rza of Wu-Tang Clan, who makes an appearance as a street samurai in camouflage. You gotta love a movie with street samurai in camouflage. — Bob Graham
